[NI1572] Submitted My father Mick Slattery had a plumbing business in Terang, but I think - l ike me - he wasn't a great business man. Great bloke though - everyone li ved him. He and his brother, Jim (Ray Tatchell's grandfather) were good bike rider s. They thought nothing of riding to Melbourne at the weekend. My broth er Jack was a very good track cyclist with Connie Delaney. He also rode w ith Tiger Pat Delaney on the road. Our house was always filled with itine rant bike riders needing a feed or a bed. Jack worked in our father's plumbing business until he was 32, then mov ed to Mildura with his family. My sister Kath, married Clarrie Carmody of Terang, who unfortunately di ed at 46 yrs, leaving Kath a widow at age 40, with 2 kids to rear. Kath l ater worked for many years at the Terang Co-operative and was involv ed as a department manager, buying, etc. My sister Marion, who never married, was a salesperson, mainly specializi ng in shoes and held positions in Terang and Warrnambool. Marion lov ed to travel and maintained friendships over the years with people she m et on her various trips. My brother, Brian died at a very early age - 27 years, due to a medical mi shap. He also worked for our father in his plumbing business until his un timely death in 1946. My sister, Ella married Stewart Paton and had 9 children. He also work ed for my father's plumbing business. Ella and Stewart moved to Cobr am in the 1950's where he unfortunately died - aged 53, leaving Ella wi th a bit of a struggle with all those kids - but they all turned out OK. My sister Aileen married Geoffery Kenna, a local footy star, and had 5 kid s. Geoffery also died young - aged 53, but Alieen coped OK, being a brig ht and vibrant person. This leaves me Desmond. Married Clare Toohey from Essendon and had 6 kids .
